Child Therapy

Therapy with children is uniquely different from work with teens or adults. Children often express their thoughts and emotions not through words, but through play. Play can be a powerful, unspoken language that allows children to explore and process difficult experiences in a natural and developmentally appropriate way.

Outcomes

Through imaginative play, storytelling, art, and other expressive techniques, children can communicate feelings they may not yet have words for-or may not even fully understand.  This process can help identify stressors, resolve internal conflicts, and promote healing.  A key part of working with children involves building a safe, trusting relationship where they feel supported and understood.  In this space, play becomes not just expression, but a path toward emotional growth and positive change.
Parental involvement is a vital part of the therapeutic process when working with children.  Collaboration between the therapist and caregivers help reinforce progress made in sessions and creates consistency across home and school environments.  A strong therapeutic relationship with the child is built alongside ongoing communication with parents to support the child's emotional and behavioral development.  With a deep understanding of child development and age-appropriate behaviors, the therapist is able to differentiate between typical developmental phases and signs of emotional distress, ensuring that intervention is both sensitive and effective for the child's stage of growth.

Therapy with children is s gradual and layered process.  While change is occurring internally, it may not always be immediately visible in the home or school setting.  Children often need time to feel safe, build trust, and process their experiences at their own pace.  It's not uncommon for therapeutic progress to unfold subtly, through shifts in play, behavior, or emotional expression over time.  Patience and consistency are essential, as meaningful, lasting change develops through a combination of relationship, reflection, and safe exploration.

Client Feedback

Transformative experience that changed my life for the better.

Erica worked with us for 10 years from 2nd grade through high school. She was able to change the course of his schooling and meet his needs that were NOT being met by the school system. There's no way we could have navigated this alone without her expertise.

Erica, thank you for your help and support, I feel you fought for our daughter as you would for one of your own children.
